In the Image

We tend to turn away from the sight of death. There is a sense of profound loss that moves us to some level of sadness, depending upon the closeness of our relationship. The closer we were to the person, the more we tend to recognize his or her value, and the greater our grief.

When death is hidden from us, so is much of its power to move us. This is nowhere more true than in the case of abortion. A picture really is worth a thousand words. Don’t worry; I can’t bear the pictures, so you won’t see them here. But, they have already done their work in my heart and mind. I feel the grief and will for the rest of my life. I’m not able to relegate abortion to just one of many issues on the ballot. Human life is the supreme issue for the simple reason that we are the only beings in all creation that God created “in his image” (Genesis 1:27).
